Originally, the Java programming language was developed by the name Oak for so-called embedded systems in electrical devices such as TV boxes. The name Oak was intended to symbolize the strength and stability of the programming language. Another version says that the name simply referred to an oak tree that grew in front of the main developer, James Gosling's flat.
In the early 1990s, however, the technology was too advanced for its original purpose, the digital television industry. In addition, there were legal issues concerning the name (it was already taken by some other company), which is why the name Oak had to be declined.
In the search for a new name, the development team came up with over 10 options. In the end, they decided on Java, the name of a strong coffee blend. Espresso is the best way to enjoy the taste of this sort and also the drink of the developers' choice.
