Management (responsibility)
What a project manager is responsible for?

Let's say you are a project manager. The customer has asked you to create a product layout. You assign a designer to do it and discuss the most important aspects with him in detail, including the deadline. And that's exactly why they don't worry at all, even if the designer never gets back to you after the initial meeting.

Now it's time to present the layout, and you find out that the designer has nothing to show for it, simply because he's been sick all this time and has also decided to change jobs.

Who is to blame now? Although it may surprise you, the guilty person is you. As the project manager, you are the only one responsible for the layout. You could point to the empty designer's chair now, but ultimately it was your job to control the process and make sure the product met the requirements.

As a manager, you should analyze each project by asking the following questions:

  • Do I know what stage the project is in?
  • Is it meeting expectations?
  • Does it fit within the deadline? And if not, why?

Each process is controlled by reviewing the intermediate results.
